Art-Spiration Behind Neon Peonies - A Journey of Color and Creation

I am truly humbled by the overwhelmingly positive response to my piece, Neon Peonies. It's no exaggeration when I say that this piece has become my favorite creation to date. A few months ago, I found myself reflecting on new subject matter for my work, and flowers felt like the perfect next step—especially with the vibrant, colorful direction my art has been evolving toward.

Peonies, in particular, have always captivated me. Their large, lush blooms offer so much to work with, and I felt they would be a wonderful starting point for this new chapter. While nature doesn’t present peonies in such a diverse range of neon colors, their size and elegance helped bridge the gap between reality and the world of the fantastical that I love to explore in my art.

Over the past six months, my acrylic work has really found its niche in bright, bold colors. I’ve always had a deep love for color, and the process of creating these pieces is what keeps me motivated throughout the journey. It’s not just the final result that excites me, but the entire creative process. Each new piece teaches me something about color theory and challenges me to grow as an artist. The positive feedback I’ve received, with many people commenting on the joy these vibrant pieces evoke, is incredibly rewarding and fuels my passion to continue creating.

One aspect of the artistic process I didn’t fully grasp before diving into this world was the sheer amount of time and dedication required to create detailed, intricate works of art. Neon Peonies alone took me around 100 hours over the course of two months to complete—working whenever I could carve out time between my full-time job and life responsibilities.

For those who may not know, art is not yet my full-time profession. Like many artists, I juggle my passion with a 40+ hour workweek, which means working on my art in small windows of time. Sometimes, I have to pause a piece for days or weeks before returning to perfect color matches or details, adding a unique challenge to the creative process. And of course, I can’t forget my five adorable pups and my husband—my greatest sources of love and support!

Neon Peonies has also opened up new creative possibilities for me, allowing me to explore a depth and intricacy I haven’t yet achieved in previous works. It has sparked dozens of new ideas, and I’m excited to continue on this floral journey. After completing a small test piece of colorful magnolias, I’m now working on a 12x12 painting of colorful water lilies. My goal is to eventually create a full floral collection and release several pieces at once, giving my followers the opportunity to experience this vibrant world in one cohesive offering.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my process and inspiration behind Neon Peonies. I invite you to explore my other works and join me on this creative journey. Your support means the world to me.
